My New Book: The Art of Myrrhbearing
I am so excited to announce that my new book will be out just after Pascha, God willing! I love this book, and I hope you love it too.
The Art of Myrrhbearing, published by Ancient Faith Publishing, is about the myrrhbearing women and the patristic understanding of myrrh. From the ten virgins with their oil lamps (some filled with oil, others lacking) to the good Samaritan who poured oil over the beaten man’s wounds, oil points to acts of mercy and compassion; oil is a very real and tangible love. Christ calls us to express this love, to become this love. The myrrhbearing women, after spending years (and fortunes) caring for Christ and His disciples, stayed with Him through His crucifixion, and then risked everything to anoint the Body of our Lord with sweet-smelling myrrh — but were greeted, instead, by the resurrection. What does that mean for us? What happens when we take Christ up on His call to offer radical, real, incarnate love?
